Scuba Diving
Providencia Island's
enormous barrier reef.
Scuba Diving
Forming part of the UNESCO
designated Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, Providencia's pristine barrier
reef is the third longest in the world. Here one finds a great variety
of easily accessible scuba diving that is suitable for both novice and
experienced divers. The tropical waters around Providencia Island are
warm, clear and calm year round, making it the ideal destination to
learn to dive or take a PADI course. Experienced divers can find
enthralling, rarely visited scuba sites near Providencia.
The underwater visibility
in these waters is excellent and often in excess of 30 metres. Popular
dives include the steep walls and multi-coloured sponges found at Blue
Hole, the sharks and huge variety of colours at Table Rock, the caves
and pristine coral at Tete's Place and the German tanker shipwreck
Planchon. In addition to the numerous dive sites a short boat trip from
Providencia, there are many more pristine reefs to explore further
afield near the distant Cayes to the North of Providencia Island.
Using PADI certified instructors and dive masters,
Deep Blue will happily help you arrange your scuba diving with one of
the local dive operators in Providencia. The nearest scuba dive centre/operator is just 500 metres from the hotel.
